Lynne Elizabeth is founding director of New Village Press, a nonprofit independent publisher of progressive books in the humanities and social sciences. The press published 10 to 12 titles per year on subjects including community-based arts, ecology, participatory urban planning, creative conflict resolution, and social justice. She moved the press to New York City in 2013 from Oakland, California. New Village Press books are distributed by New York University Press.
Lynne is co-editor of Beyond Zuccotti Park: Freedom of Assembly and the Occupation of Public Space, What We See: Advancing the Observations of Jane Jacobs, Works of Heart: Building Village through the Arts, and Alternative Construction: Contemporary Natural Building Methods. She is contributing author to Eco-Village Living and Sustainable Architecture White Papers.
As past president and active member of Architects Designers Planners for Social Responsibility, Lynne helped produce programs for peace, environmental protection, social justice, and the development of healthy communities. She also published the national periodical, New Village Journal.
Lynne previously founded and directed the Eos Institute, a center for the study of sustainable living based in Southern California, where she managed the institute's projects, including construction of a demonstration eco-house and a Permaculture garden. Lynne also published the institute's Earthword Journal.
