Jim Vines

Jim Vines was born in New York City in 1963. His father was a well-known voice-over radio and television announcer. His mother was a Columbia Studios starlet and model. The family moved to Los Angeles in 1968. Jim fell in love with filmmaking at the age of 11 when he began making Super-8 movies with friends. A few years later, while attending Beverly Hills High School, Jim co-wrote, co-produced, and performed in many film and television productions, all of which were produced in the BHHS media department. In the early 80s, Jim co-wrote sketch comedy that he performed in theaters around Los Angeles. After working in the B-movie movie industry as a stuntman, still photographer, and grip, Jim embarked on the much less strenuous and creatively fulfilling life of a screenwriter. Jim sold his first screenplay, a thriller entitled The Perfect Tenant (2000), in 1997. In 2004 he was hired to write the horror/thriller script House at the End of the Drive, which was eventually made into a movie (not yet released). In 2006 his popular book Q&A: The Working Screenwriter was published. In 2009 his 2-act play, the outrageous comedy Downwind of the Cannery, was produced in Los Angeles. Jim is also the author of two very popular blogs for screenwriters. A screenwriter and script consultant, Jim's focus has shifted to writing novels. His debut novel is Luigi's Chinese Delicatessen (2015), which is a hot and heavy tale about the life of a young Hollywood screenwriter. Jim claims: "97% of it is a work of fiction." He's not saying which three percent is true. In 2019 Jim published A Beast Is Born!: A Screenwriter's Journey from Script to Award-winning Short Film, which is an in-depth chronicle of his short horror script Susie's Beast.
