Nate Ostis began exploring rivers in 1988 and has been living, playing, and working on them ever since. He is a senior field instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School and the Wilderness Medicine Institute. Nate has a BS in Education and a K-12 Teacher's Certificate. He has taught at the elementary, high school, and college levels. Additionally he was the head coach of a Division III Men's Lacrosse team. He is an Instructor Trainer for the American Canoe Association and serves on their Safety & Rescue Committee. He is also a Rescue 3 International instructor and adjunct faculty for the Center for Emergency Programs at the University of Utah.
Nate is the founder and director of Wilderness Rescue International. He teaches approximately 25 swiftwater rescue courses a year. Organizations that he teaches regularly include fire departments, Search and Rescue teams, BLM Rangers, National Park Service, USGS field scientists, Air Force, Navy, Fish and Game, rafting companies, and more. Nate teaches courses across the globe and develops customized courses on a routine basis.
