J. Barrett

J. Michael Barrett is a noted author and risk management expert with an extensive background in risk, strategy and resiliency for commercial, military and government clients. He has served in critical roles for national security policy and military intelligence, including service as Director of Strategy for the White House Homeland Security Council.

Mike has managed projects for executives of major international corporations, senior military leaders, and federal and state legislators. His innovative approach to opportunity risk and resiliency combines academic theory with real-world experience to create measurable value. He specializes in:

In the private sector, Mike has founded two successful consulting firms servicing the needs of clients as diverse as Deutsche Bank, Mitsubishi Chemicals, The United States Marine Corps, and the Washington, DC National Capital Region (NCR). He also previously served as Senior Analyst for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) and Lead Intelligence Officer for the Special Operations Division of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (OASD).

Mike has been interviewed on television and radio by ABC, The Canadian Broadcast Company, Fox News, FRONTLINE, MSNBC, NBC, NPR, The New York Metro News, New York Sun, and The Washington Post. He also is the co-author of two books on risk and resiliency (including a New York Times Best Seller), has authored dozens of journal and opinion-editorial articles, and is an Occasional Guest Lecturer at Georgetown University, National Defense University, and Joint Special Operations University.

A former Fulbright Scholar to Turkey, Mike received an M.A. in Strategic Studies and International Economics from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, D.C., and an M.B.A. from the Australian School of Business in Sydney, Australia. He also was graduated cum laude with a B.A. in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania.
