Caryn Casey has a Bachelor of Science in Education, but she has spent more of her career as an entrepreneur, writer and passionate dog lover and advocate. She wrote a column for a Minneapolis- based newspaper chain when her children were young, and has subsequently written for a variety of publications. Some of those publications include: a column for Paw Print Magazine, Cesar's Way Magazine, Pet Press, www.healthypetmagazine.com, www.pethomemagazine.com, www.wuffingtonwag.com and www.pcdogrescue.org, and she has contributed educational material for The Cesar Milan Foundation.
For their first anniversary, she and her husband, Jim, adopted their first dog from a shelter. Rafferty fostered a deep love for dogs in Caryn, however it was the rescue of their dog Legacy, a beautiful animal with deformed front paws, scheduled to die at a kill shelter, and weekly volunteer hours at a private rescue organization that unleashed her passion to use her writer's voice to speak for dogs left homeless at the hands of even well-meaning people.
While conducting mobile dog adoptions for Pacific Coast Dog rescue, in Burbank, California, Caryn would routinely hear people express a lack of accurate information about breeds, and what they thought was necessary to create a successful adoption. The seeds of a book began to germinate. She has written and had published many success stories celebrating the immeasurable, reciprocal bond between human beings and dogs when adoption is done well, and coupled with a thirst for wanting to help people understand more about how we can all help to alleviate the alarming disturbing homeless pet population, UNDERDOGS: Valuable Information and Stories of Information was born. The information Caryn was able to gather through research and interviewing various experts in the area of animal advocacy, will help even those who feel their beloved dog could never end up in a shelter.
Caryn is also co-owner of a t-shirt company, called Much More Than Me. (www.muchmorethanme.com) The t-shirts help to raise awareness about how dogs really end up in rescues, tie in the connection between adopting animals and being "eco-friendly," and promote the importance of being more compassionate to both human beings and animals. MMTM routinely donates a portion of proceeds on the sale of each shirt to rescues and shelters nationwide, and Caryn plans to do the same thing with sales of UNDERDOGS.
Caryn divides her time between Minnesota and California. She is married to Jim, they have daughters Siera and Carlie, and dogs Impulse and Legacy.
