I began my writing career by publishing a memoir of my experiences as a soldier in the Vietnam War. That first project was born out writing for the Library of Congress' Veteran's History Project. As I reflected on that episode of my life I concluded that history has a bad memory, continually repeats itself and that the human actors in this drama seem to lack the ability learn from their mistakes.
My second, soon to be published project: Walk Softly... Eat with Small Sticks, is a collection of stories of people and places I've encountered during my extensive travels on the planet. I've hitchhiked around the US, played my violin around Europe, and explored the backroads of Central and South America, in the process discovering a new world, not the neat and tidy one I was taught about in geography class.
My next project is an in-depth exploration of the history of my family's immigration and settlement in the US. A surreal tale for sure.
