Reid K. Hester

Dr. Reid K. Hester is the Director of the Research Division of Checkup & Choices, LLC in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His professional career has balanced clinical work with consultation, research, and training in empirically supported approaches in substance abuse treatment. His research interest is in the area of development of digital tools for people with alcohol and drug problems. All of the web apps he has developed have demonstrated effectiveness in randomized clinical trials. And they have all been integrated into a single program at www.checkupandchoices.com

He has been the senior editor of 3 books and over 60 other publications in the area of substance abuse prevention and treatment. Dr. Hester was a recipient of a Tibbets award for excellence in Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) in 1997 and 2006. He has been a technical adviser and consultant to the World Health Organization (WHO), the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). He received his Ph.D. from Washington State University in 1979. When not working professionally, he enjoys sailing, riding his road bike, swimming, and hiking.
