Kevin J. Roberts

Kevin J. Roberts, M.A. is an academic coach, AI literacy educator, and author of six books whose work lives at the intersection of neurodiversity, screen culture, and the future of learning.

His graduate work in neuroscience led to two decades of clinical work with screen-addicted youth, including collaboration on a program featured on ABC's 20/20 and two Grand Rounds presentations at Children's Hospital of Michigan. When Cyber Junkie was published in 2010, screen addiction was not yet a mainstream conversation. He was having it anyway.

His newest book, The Effort Crisis, makes a different argument than most books about AI in schools. The question is not whether students are cheating. The question is whether the effort required to build real knowledge is being quietly eliminated, and what happens to a generation of kids if it is.

His original research, America's AI Report Card, is the first comprehensive scoring of every state's AI education guidance. Fourteen states have published none. Of the thirty-seven that have, only Vermont scored 9 out of 10 on whether students should still build real knowledge before turning to AI.

Roberts is the co-founder of The AI Edge, an AI literacy program for students in grades 8 through 12, and works with college-bound families through his consulting practice. He has spoken at CHADD, ADDA, ADDISS, and ADHD Europe, appeared on BBC Radio and NPR, and gives presentations in seven languages across ten countries.

He lives in Michigan.
