Sharon Corwin

Sharon Corwin was appointed as the Carolyn Muzzy Director and Chief Curator at the Colby College Museum of Art and Professor of Art at Colby College in 2006 after serving for 3 years as the Lunder Curator of American Art at the Colby Museum. At Colby, she is currently overseeing a 26,000 SF addition to the museum designed by Frederick Fisher and Partners. Prior to coming to the Colby Museum, Corwin held a postdoctoral appointment at the University of California, Berkeley, where she taught courses in the History of Art Department and curated special exhibitions at the Berkeley Art Museum.

Corwin holds a B.A. from New College and a M.A. and Ph.D. in Art History from the University of California, Berkeley. She has published numerous books and essays including, Alex Katz: Maine/New York (Charta, 2012), American Modern: Documentary Photography by Abbott, Evans, and Bourke-White (University of California Press, 2010) and “Picturing Efficiency: Precisionism, Scientific Management, and the Effacement of Labor” (Representations, 2004). She also serves on the Executive Committee and as Chair of the Public Art Committee for the Maine Arts Commission.
