Stuart Gardner Hunt

Stuart Gardner Hunt was born in Montreal,Canada on April 5,1923. His Father was American and his Mother Canadian, hence his dual citizenship. He and his family immigrated to the United States in 1941.

Stuart joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in September 1942. He was commissioned a Pilot Officer on July 1943. During WWII he served in the 425 Aloutte Squadron stationed in Yorkshire, England.

He was shot down after 14 missions and imprisoned in Germany's Stalag Luft III, home of the Movie , "The Great Escape".Stuart was liberated, after two grueling forced marches, by the British Second Army in May 1945, and then returned to England. When the war ended in 1945, he was dischared from active duty and returned home to the United States.

In 1948, Stuart entered the Californis National Guard as a First lieutenant. In 1950, he received orders for the Korean War Service. He spend a year as a Forward Observer and battery Executive Officer for the 31st Field Artillery, 7th Infantry Division of the US Army. Stuart served with distinction and was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal.

In may 1946, Stuart married Bridget Darsey in San Diego, California. They have three daughters, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildern. Stuart and Bridget reside in San Diego.
