Borut Poljsak

Borut Poljšak was born in Slovenia (Europe) and graduated from the Faculty of Health Studies of the University of Ljubljana, later obtaining his Doctor of Science degree from the University of Nova Gorica. He has worked at the University of Ljubljana in the Faculty of Health Sciences since 2002, where he is currently the Head of the Laboratory for Oxidative Stress Research. He develops detection methods for free radicals and other reactive species in cellular systems, and engages in research concerning the detection of hydrogen peroxide, estimation of intracellular oxidation, electron spin resonance, fingerprinting methods, induction of stress responses to oxidative stress, determination of endogenous defense systems, etc. He has a special interest in antioxidants and their potential impact on health and longevity, as well as developing methods for anti-aging and lifespan increase. His work with students includes teaching in the fields of Preventive Medicine, Environmental Epidemiology, and Risk Assessment of Chemicals. In recent years, he has published several scientific papers and books in fields concerning antioxidants, free radicals, oxidative stress and anti-aging.
