Dr. H. Wayne Lambert teaches gross anatomy, embryology, and neuroanatomy to medical and dental students at West Virginia University (WVU). Since 1995, his passion has been to create a non-threatening, student-centered environment in which his diverse students can thrive and pursue success. Throughout his academic career, his primary scholarly activity has focused on the development, review, and assessment of multiple-choice questions to prepare professional students for their board examinations in the anatomical sciences. The "Lippincott's Illustrated Q&A Review of Anatomy and Embryology" textbook represents the culmination of this work.
Dr. Lambert holds leadership positions in four national and international professional associations (American Association of Clinical Anatomists, American Association of Anatomists, American Dental Education Association, and the International Association of Medical Science Educators). Since 2005, he has contributed to nine textbooks and associated textbook ancillary websites in the fields of anatomy, embryology, and histology.
In 2010, Dr. Lambert was the recipient of the WVU Distinguished Teacher Award for M.D. Programs and the WVU School of Medicine John W. Traubert Award. The latter award is selected by the student body and presented to a "student-centered basic science or clinical science faculty member who displays the characteristics of honest and ethical communication, respect, approachability, a positive attitude, and a willingness to serve as a mentor". In 2011, Dr. Lambert received the Percival L. MacLachlan Basic Sciences Award as he was selected by WVU second year medical students in recognition for excellence in teaching basic medical sciences.
