Judith Kaplan-Weinger

Judith Kaplan-Weinger earned her PhD in Linguistics at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She is professor of Linguistics at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. Judy's primary area of research is in sociolinguistics and discourse analysis. Most recently, her research has focused on the construction and presentation of identity in discourses of loss and mourning. This complements her research in Holocaust survivor testimonies. This year saw the publication of Judy's third academic text - this one focusing on the ethnography of communication. In addition to teaching courses in sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, and anthropological linguistics, Judy has trained English as a second/foreign language teachers for the past twenty-five years and has presented her research in discourse analysis and in second language teaching at numerous professional conferences.
