Adam R. Grose

Adam R. Grose is a English writer, artist, lecturer and publisher (Clown Press) known mainly for his independent graphic novels and oil paintings. He is particularly known for his 550 page sci-fi epic adventure, Cosmogenesis: The Chronicles of Quongo, with illustrator Tony Suleri and the BBC Mock Turner Painting What Do You See?

He was born in Cornwall and grew up in Somerset. He began writing and drawing from an early age and contributed to a variety of magazines during his school and college years, creating a mini-comic called Judge Life which was distributed at school. He created and wrote a variety of stories for a magazine called 'underGROUND' and 'Stories to Scare' from 1987 to 1992 with his friend Tony Suleri. Adam continually works on projects with Tony and they are currently working on what they term a 'sidequel' adventure based on one of the characters from the Cosmogenesis saga to be published in 2017/ 2018.

He began writing the 550 page graphic novel Cosmogenesis: The Chronicles of Quongo in 1998. The first issue, The Skull of Muluc, was published in May 2001, followed each year by the next five books in the series; Bloodlines (2002), The Sword of Xian (2003), Armageddon (2004), The Shadow Falls (2004) and Rebirth (written in three acts) (2005/6). The series was collected together as a trade paperback in December 2007 and released to rave reviews.

It has been compared to the works of J. R. R. Tolkien (Redeye Magazine), Franz Kafka and Joseph Campbell (Down the Tubes), in its scale and depth of this epic mythological tale. The saga contains many hidden codes that readers can decipher, leading to a deeper understanding of human history as told and written down in myths and expressed in celebratory rituals.

He divides his time between writing, drawing, painting, soundscape construction and teaching. Adam has also contributed to many other graphic novels and is an award winning fine artist in the U.K. and abroad, attending residencies (Somerset Art Works: Pathways Creative Bursary, Malaca Instituto: Flow and Art, Cyprus College of Art, Pilgrimages to Spain, India, Philippines and Mexico, Philips Semiconductors Prize) as well as educating on the benefits of creativity to physical and mental health in Prison Education, colleges, PRUs and workshops. He writes regularly about his art practice and exhibitions, including a new publication Art as Transformer published in 2017. He has recently published Mindscape: A Year in Cornwall and The Black Knight and Other Tales in 2020 & 2021.
