Robby Charters

I am an author of eight full length novels, plus a number of smaller novellas, short stories and cartoon features, as well as some nonfiction. To see them, either look at my website, or else Google "Robby Charters" (apparently, no one else spells their name that way). I live with my wife and my son in Northern Ireland. All three of us were born in Thailand, my wife of Thai Chinese parents, I of an Irish father and American mother, my son of... – go do the maths yourself. My mother was also born in Thailand. I got most of my education and my horrible accent in America. Most of my time there was in California, Appalachia, with little bits in Washington State and New York. That was all before 1985. I was a missionary in Thailand during a lot of the time since, where I met my wife. She was also a missionary, with YWAM. We've been in N.Ireland since 2003, where I write, draw picture, design books, and work at day jobs. My son has finished Uni with a degree in philosophy, and also does okay. At least he's philosophical about it.

A lot of my history appears in some of my novels. If you notice a character named Boz O'Brien, that's me making a cameo appearance. He shows up in Thailand; in the fictional nation of Cardovia - actually in a parallel situation to one in Bangkok; as a little boy in New Jersey (sorry forgot to mention that part); in whatever city RATS IN THE CELLAR is set in - though that's only because he wrote the song as me (although I may have given voice lessons in a different time-line); and on covers of books found in a library of the distant future. In spite of the word "rats" showing up a lot in my titles, I don't have an obsession with them. In the series, RATS IN THE CELLAR, they are only a metaphor. If I had written that series after THE RAT QUEEN series, I would have named it differently.

For my full story, read my "very long bio" on my website (warning: very long).
