Gregory Lee White

Gregory Lee White is the author of more than eighteen books exploring folklore, folk magic, and the art of crafting by hand. His bestselling 2012 release, Making Soap from Scratch: How to Make Handmade Soap – A Beginner’s Guide and Beyond, held the top spot in Amazon’s soapmaking category for over a year and continues to be a go-to guide for soap crafters. His more recent titles include Papa Gee’s Book of Candle Magic, Hecate – The Goddess of Witchcraft, Tarot Magic, and The Sacred Phallus: Magical Symbol of Power and Protection.

A folklorist and teacher, Gregory shares his lifelong passion for old-world magic as the co-owner of aromaG’s Botanica, a well-loved metaphysical shop in Nashville, Tennessee. There, he works as a tarot reader, artist, aromatherapist, and educator, offering classes in Appalachian folk magic and rootwork traditions. His work blends historical insight with hands-on practice, making the mystical both accessible and powerful.

“I started out wanting to write magical realism fiction,” White says. “Maybe when I’ve said all I need to in the world of magical how-to, I’ll get back to the characters still living in my head.”

He lives in Tennessee with his husband and several curious cats.
