I started writing as a teenager, but things like life kept interrupting. My progeny finally decided they could survive without Mom and ventured out on their own. Being president of three privately held corporations and earning an income became less than a 24/7 necessity. I sold my last business and then served several years as a volunteer teaching Creative Writing at Senior Centers and tutoring youngsters in reading at an Elementary School.
While working with the children I was fascinated by their observations. One little girl complained that I had not helped her with her project. I told her my schedule was full, but I would help her next week. She answered, "That won't help! Next week hasn't been invented yet."
That immediately became my new motto.
Write it now.
Next week hasn't been invented yet.
My fascination with writing re-ignited, and I began writing fiction. Every time some facet of a story requires verification, and I delve into research, invariably some 'tidbit' triggers a "what if", and another plot develops. The various jobs and travels of my past creep into the stories blending reality and make-believe backgrounds for the characters.
