Bernard O'Connor

Bernard O'Connor has lived and taught in Britain, Taiwan, China and Australia. Since moving to Bedfordshire, UK, in the 1980s, he has researched and published numerous articles and booklets on local history and given illustrated lectures across the region.

His best sellers are books related to RAF Tempsford, a remote airfield in northeast Bedfordshire, UK. Designed by an illusionist to give the enemy the impression it was disused, it was the base for 138 and 161 Squadrons, who, during the moonlit nights on either side of the full moon, took off and flew low to drop supplies and agents into occupied Europe. He has seven books available related to Churchill's Most Secret Airfield including a novel - Courrier de l'Air.

Acknowledged as the expert on the 19th century coprolite industry, he has published accounts on every parish where this fossil deposit was worked as well as an account of 'South Carolina's Phosphate Industry.' Thought at the time to be fossilised dinosaur droppings, the fossils were exploited as a raw material in the manufacture of superphosphate - the world's first artifical chemical fertiliser.

Having taught Humanities in St Neots, he researched and published 'Who was St Neot?' He's also written about Rev. John Berridge - the Gospel Pedlar', Gamlingay Park and the Downings (of Downing Street and Downing College, Cambridge)and Gamlingay's Perambulation Walk.

Bernard has also generated the world's first footpath website which includes fascinating detail of local geology, archaeology and history.
