David Lowe

Currently a Senior Research Fellow at Leeds Beckett University's Law School, up to July 2017 David Lowe was Principal Lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University’s Law School where he managed the LLB programmes. Prior to being an academic David was a police officer where he carried out a number of policing roles. During his police career David studied for a BA in Criminal Justice, an LLB, an MPhil and commenced his PhD research (completing it when he was employed at LJMU in 2010). It was his police experiences that ignited his interest in terrorism & security and criminal law where during his time at LJMU David researched these areas. As a result, in addition to his David Hurst series of fiction books, he has had a number of books, book chapters and journal articles published with his latest book ‘Terrorism: Law and Policy’ being published late 2017. Published by Routledge it examines terrorism law and policies in Australia, Canada, the European Union, the UK and the US.

Although David retired from LJMU in August 2017, he has not stopped working. He will continue with his research and writing as well as carrying out consultancy work that includes being an expert witness in terrorists’ use of tradecraft (counter surveillance behaviour) and terrorism related research projects. David is currently involved in a regional project in the northwest of England on the UK government’s Prevent strategy covering mainly Burnley, Liverpool and Manchester.

As a result of David's expertise in the area of terrorism and security he is consistently requested to provide expert commentary by the media that includes the BBC television and radio, Sky News, ITV, LBC radio., TalkRadio, France 24, RT (formerly Russia Today), DW Germany, Al Jazeera, Al Arabyia, CNN, cnbc (US), ABC television and radio (Australia) as well as the print media in both the UK and internationally.
