John A. Winters

John Winters grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He attended boarding school at The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. He was graduated from Washington and Lee University with bachelor degrees in American History and Journalism.

He spent 24 years in the newspaper business before deciding to write full time. During his journalism years, he was an award-winning investigative reporter; three-time Pulitzer Prize nominee; Washington, D.C., bureau chief; publisher of the Juneau (Alaska) Empire, the daily newspaper in the state's capital city; general manager of The Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent; and director of a national news service, which included more than 30 papers in 11 states.

He is married to the Little Black Dress and together they have three sons, affectionately known as the Sons of Thunder.

A new book, The Little Black Dress and the SONS of Thunder ~ Recipes on Life and Food ~ came out in August of 2011. Follow the adventures of The Dress and the SONS, nearly blowing up a waverunner, sinking a catamaran, digging to China and learning some sage advice from talking animals. And even though they faceed death, through countless bonfires they remember that God is still in control.
