William Weidner

Mr. Weidner is a military historian who has been studying the Second World War for thirty years. He finally became so frustrated with the apparent unwillingness of other historians to tell the truth about the war, especially the war in Europe, that he decided to write his own book. The problem, as you might expect, was inter-Allied "politics." Allied strategy, beginning at the "Battle of the Falaise Gap," was determined by political compromise rather than sound military tactics. This was doubly unfortunate because the arguments which caused the Allied rift in Normandy were never addressed and continued to disrupt Allied strategy through the end of the war. Anyone interested in what really happened in Europe, must first understand how inter-Allied "politics" influenced the ability of Allied generals to command and control their armies.

For an interesting, if revisionist account of the battles in Normandy, one should read: "EISENHOWER & MONTGOMERY at the Falaise Gap." Well documented with over 1,200 footnotes, there are 375 pages of text. One retired general found the book "...interesting and professionally educational." It is hoped that most readers will share that experience.

Born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania in 1941, William Weidner attended schools in Carlisle and graduated from Carlisle High School in 1959. He attended Dickinson College in Carlisle and served three years (1963-1966) in the United States Army. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado and has been employed as a time study engineer, a real estate salesman, and a construction project manager. He has two daughters and lives in Grand Junction, Colorado.
