Author Cliff Field, M.D. began his medical career in 1980 when he graduated from Hahnemann University (now Drexel University) in Philadelphia, PA. Since then he has specialized in Family Medicine with a focus on sports medicine and emergency medicine.
Dr Field began his martial arts training in 1986 studying Seibukan, a traditional Shorin Ryu karate founded by Zenryo Shimabukuru. In 1993 when he move to a new locale he began studying with another traditional Shorin Ryu style; International Karate League (www.ikl.org) founded by Walter Nishioka. In addition to his medical service he operates a small nonprofit dojo. He is ranked 7th Dan and sits on the IKL Board of Governors.
His martial art’s experience and studies combined with his understanding of medicine and biomechanics have allowed an in depth analysis and presentation of martial arts.
