GEORGE V. PACKARD (1932-2011) was an American author who lived toward the end of his life on a small island in the Canaries. He was born and brought up on the coast of Maine, attended Bowdoin College, Columbia University and the Officer's Candidate School at the Coast Guard Academy. His fiction has appeared in Redbook, Family Circle, Cavalier, Texas Monthly, Paris Metro, Yankee and Sports Illustrated. Some of his SI pieces can be seen online at SI's Archive. A novel, That Grail Song, Sam, was published by Gambit Inc. of Boston and optioned twice for film. He lived with his wife of more than 25 years, the artist Kordula Packard, whose sea painting provides the cover for RESCUE.
