Alex G. Paman

Alex G. Paman originally wanted to become an illustrator as a child. Exposed to Forrest J. Ackerman's "Famous Monsters from Filmland" magazine early on, he developed a deep fascination for all things science fiction, fantasy, and horror while growing up in the Philippines. Paman didn't take up writing until he and his family immigrated to the United States. His interest in fantastic literature continued well into adulthood, and although he had some proficiency in writing, it always took a backseat to his love for drawing.

Despite having aspirations of becoming a comic book artist, he ultimately decided to pursue Graphic Design while attending Sacramento State University. But taking one class in print journalism to fulfill a requirement in his major forever changed the course of his career. His teacher saw potential in his work, and that was all the encouragement he needed.

Graduating with a BA and an AA in Fine Arts, he went on to write for several Filipino magazines and newspapers (including the Philippine Review, the Philippine Fiesta, YOLK!, and Filipinas magazine). He worked the entertainment beat, interviewing celebrities, public figures, and musical acts who toured Northern California.

Trying try his hand in fiction, he had short stories published in two anthologies: Field of Mirrors, and the Philippine Genre Stories' special Horror Issue. Paman later returned to his journalistic roots and began researching the Asian supernatural. He ultimately landed book deals with Mutual Publishing and Tuttle/Periplus, producing "Asian Supernatural, including Hawai'i and the Pacific," and "Filipino Ghost Stories." Asian Supernatural won an "Honorable Mention" award in the Excellence in Text or Reference Books category in the 2011 Ka Palapala Po'okela book awards, held in Hawaii. He would later self-publish a cookbook on Filipino barbecue.

Paman is a working graphic designer. When not writing or drawing, he enjoys martial arts, staying fit, exploring ethnic cuisines, and exploring world culture. He is currently developing a YouTube channel to express his creativity.
