I consider myself more of a story teller than a gifted writer. I have been writing since my first creative writing classes in high school and have turned out some form of written document every year of my long life. My writing has included poetry, song lyrics (which were recorded), movie reviews, a TV sitcom script, two plays, short stories, journal articles, training materials, and two trade books (one published by Simon and Schuster and one published in Mainland China). I have received multiple awards for my writing, public speaking, public service and teaching. I have appeared on television and numerous radio talk shows.
My first novel, formerly called Three Down, now named LESSONS IN HONOR was placed on Amazon.com June 20, 2012. You can also connect with me on my website: www.linbothwell.com; which has links to my Facebook, Twitter, Linked In and Blog and access to an e-mail site to give me feedback. As of March 23, 2013 you can now purchase or borrow LESSONS IN HONOR as a Kindle e-book!
I have had both the benefit and the challenge of a very diverse education. From the public schools I went right into the United States Air Force Academy as the youngest cadet in the USAFA Class of 1964. I later obtained a master's degree in the social sciences, and then a doctorate in organizational behavior from Harvard University.
To be valuable the academic theory has to be accompanied by experience. I have worked in the business world as: a factory worker, a first line supervisor, a middle manager, a vice president and as CEO. I have been a business school dean, tenured business professor and management consultant to over 40 Fortune 500 corporations. When not in a suit, I have hiked the Himalayas, been inside of a Russian and a Chinese submarine, flown fighter jets over Europe and Africa, and survived a year at Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Bronx.
My wife and I have lived and worked in the U.S. from Massachusetts to Southern California. We have traveled extensively in Europe and Asia. Susan and I are currently back in the U.S. having lived most of the last decade in Mainland China and in Fiji. We were in China during the SARS epidemic, the Hainan Island incident, and 9/11. In Fiji we went through two cyclones and the "hundred year flood" assigned to work with the Fijian Army in flood relief. Our life has been an adventure.
I trust that you will enjoy reading LESSONS IN HONOR and will find in the pages life lessons that can benefit you and your family. The book should be particularly meaningful to those who have served in the military and the military families of those currently serving. Cheers! Lin Bothwell
