Hubert Untersteiner

Dr. Hubert Untersteiner was born on 31 December 1970 in Feldkirchen (Carinthia, Austria). He spent his childhood in the city of Salzburg. From 1986 to 1991, he attended the Technical Forestry High School in Bruck/Mur (Styria), from which he graduated with a school-leaving certificate (Matura). He then worked as a forester for the Austrian Federal Forests.

From 1993 to 1999, he studied biology (specialising in zoology) at the renowned Karl Franzens University in Graz. He then devoted himself to his doctoral thesis in the field of aquatic ecotoxicology at the Institute of Zoology at the University of Graz until 2004, graduating with honours. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences and the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna. His research work has been published in renowned scientific journals.

From 2020 to 2024, he completed a postgraduate degree in Environmental Toxicology and Pollutant Monitoring at the renowned University of Ulster, where he graduated with honours.

In addition to his scientific work, Hubert Untersteiner is also a non-fiction author, particularly in the fields of biology, ecology and science communication. He has published four non-fiction books to date.

He is also active as a writer: Under a pseudonym, he writes fantasy novels in which he combines his creative streak with fascinating worlds, captivating stories and mythological elements.
