Peter Boody

Peter Boody is a semi-retired newspaper editor based on eastern Long Island, New York. From the 1970s through the 1990s, he worked at and became editor of the Southampton Press. In the 2000s until 2015, he edited the Shelter Island Reporter.

For several years in the 2000s, he also was a regular contributor to the New York Times Long Island regional section. He returned to the Press Newsgroup as the founding editor of The East Hampton Press in 2007.

Born in Englewood, NJ in 1950, he won the fiction prize for his class at the Englewood School for Boys in 1964 and four years later did the same at Phillips Exeter Academy. He studied American history and English at Columbia College in NY (BA, 1974) and earned his master's degree at Columbia University School of Journalism (MS, 1979). He married Barbara Mangravite, a colleague at the Southampton Press, that same year.

He is a former staff writer and editorial coordinator at Flying Magazine (1979-1981). A pilot, he soloed at age 16 at Teterboro airport and holds a commercial license and flight instructor certificate. He continues to work part-time as a flight instructor (CFI, CFII) at the East Hampton, NY airport and as a contributor to the ExpressNewsGroup (formerly the Press News Group and the Sag Harbor Express, which have merged).

His former newspaper column, "Inside Out," was about writing and his work as a newspaper editor. He and his wife had a vacation home in Arlington, Vermont for 20 years until 2015. They have a Westie named Stuey. At the time he wrote the two novels he has published on Amazon (he has written several others never published), the dog of the house was a Westie named Harry who lived to nearly age 17.

He believes both "The Consequences of Longing" and "Thomas Jefferson, Rachel & Me" are very good novels that have been overlooked because they are considered unmarketable by most agents and editors.
