Writer, artist, antique dealer, Chihuahua mama ...my claim to fame. I'm on the Board of Directors at the Monroe-Walter Center for the Arts where I am the Literary Arts Chair. My newest offering A Wingman for Christmas (published Oct 2022) is close to my heart. A small-town Georgia novella with quirky characters, family secrets, mystery, sweet love and a parrot named Nigel. Sweet Water is a Hallmark style fictional town set outside of Thomasville, Georgia, a real town with wonderful history and events.
The book that started it all was The Unfaithful Widow, my memoir on the year following the death of my husband. It is a book of hope, rather than of grief. It is my quirky journey of healing with the help of a vintage corvette, girlfriends, a bevy of dogs, bad dates leading to good things, and signs from the universe. The Unfaithful Widow placed as a finalist in the 2011 USA Best Book Awards in the women's issues category. Since then I have tried my hand at fiction, Danger in her Words, and a picture book, A Dog Dreams of Paris, that placed as a finalist in the 2017 Best Book Awards in the children's non-fiction category. The Unfaithful Widow Ten Years Later is my latest memoir on all that happened after the release of my first memoir in 2010.
I am pleased my essays on life have been seen on Skirt.com, The Red Room for authors, On Purpose Woman magazine, and Silver & Grace. For a short period I was a member of the blogging team for "The Balancing Act", Lifetime Television's morning show for women.
Adopting dogs from my local shelters rescued me at the darkest time of my life. Many have crossed over the rainbow bridge, but new dogs have come home with me. Known as Writer With Dogs, I now call myself Chihuahua Mama as I love those small dogs with their big attitudes. I currently have four little ones.
Remember, love is just around the corner at your local animal shelter. Adopt!
