Are you wondering if Land is my real name? It is! It was my grandmother’s maiden name and people often call me Mr. Land. My name comes in handy because I write stories about protecting Earth. My mission is to awaken in young people the desire to demand what is rightfully theirs ... clean water, land, and air.
When I was a child, a wonderful naturalist named Mrs. Terwilliger encouraged me to love and protect nature. She believed that if children were introduced to the outdoors, they would develop an awareness and love of nature for the rest of their lives. Building on this theory, I believe that if young people learn how much power they have to protect their environment, they will develop awareness and good habits for protecting Earth for the rest of their lives.
I began writing as a hobby in college, and over the years writing has become my favorite form of self-expression. When I knew that I was going to have children, I wanted to write a book that could teach them and others the importance of caring for Earth. This led me, in 1999, to start writing one of my favorite books. I had read that viewing Earth from a distance could drastically change a person’s thinking about our planet. As part of my research, I interviewed three Apollo astronauts: Captain Walter M. Schirra Jr., Colonel Frank Borman, and Captain Eugene Cernan. These interviews inspired me to complete what would become, Sofia’s Dream, published by Little Pickle Press www.littlepicklepress.com
