Federico M. Rossi (Ph.D., European University Institute, Florence) is a Ramón y Cajal Research-Professor at the Department of Sociology II of the UNED in Madrid. Currently on leave as a Senior Research-Professor of CONICET-UNSAM in Buenos Aires.
In recognition of his career he has been awarded the prestigious Humboldt Stiftung Fellowship for senior researchers at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies and is a advisory editor of The Wiley Blackwell Encyclopedia of Social and Political Movements (Wiley).
He is a praised expert in the study of social movements, democratization and the political economy of social change processes. He is the author of the book The Poor's Struggle for Political Incorporation (Cambridge University Press) where he proposes a theory to analyze the search for incorporation of the popular sectors as citizens and wage earners. This work opened a new debate on the analysis of the political economy of Latin America, originating the book Reshaping the Political Arena in Latin America (University of Pittsburgh Press, with Eduardo Silva) to apply his thesis of the second wave of incorporation in Latin America.
He also published the two most comprehensive works on Latin American scientific production in the study of social movements: The Oxford Handbook of Latin American Social Movements (Oxford University Press), and Social Movement Dynamics: New Perspectives on Theory and Research from Latin America (Routledge, with Marisa von Bülow).
Regarding youth political participation, he is the author of La participación de las juventudes hoy (Prometeo, 2009).
