Patrick B. Forsyth

Patrick B. Forsyth is professor of education at the University of Oklahoma and has long been involved in the reform of educational leadership preparation, starting in 1984 when he became executive director of the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA), a position he held for 15 years. He managed the National Commission on Excellence in Educational Administration, and together with Martha McCarthy (Indiana University), founded the UCEA convention. He secured Danforth funds to begin the National Policy Board for Educational Administration and, as its corporate secretary, was instrumental in obtaining Pugh support for the ISLLC project that put in place stricter national standards for licensure of school leaders. Forsyth has worked with education leaders in China, Taiwan, Australia, Canada, Belgium, and the United Arab Emirates. He has served the American Education Research Association in various capacities, including Division A vice president and Executive Council. Since returning to the professoriate in 2000, he has directed an extensive research project focused on parent trust. Forsyth has also explored work alienation, professionalization, and collective efficacy. He serves on several editorial boards, including the AERA Books Editorial Board and The Journal of Educational Administration.
