Chris Vervliet

Being fascinated by Africa and South Africa in particular, Chris Vervliet has devoted several books to the southernmost country of the African continent.

His most successful book so far has been “Het Echte Zuid-Afrika” (Davidsfonds, Leuven, Belgium) which he co-authored with his wife Dierdre Rudman (see below). In this book, he combines his passion for astronomy and geology so that the tourist can discover, in South Africa’s unique scenery, the origin and evolution of our planet. At the same time, his economic and political academic background is reflected in his devotion to enrich a tourist’s stay with ample background information on South Africa’s history and challenges.

On a more philosophical note, Chris Vervliet is the first author to point at the similarities of European personalism, the African Ubuntu thinking and Muslim personalism (Shakçânyya). He did so in “The Human Person, African Ubuntu and the Dialogue of Civilisations”, published in 2009 by Adonis & Abbey (London).

Lifestyle, food and children are the main themes of Belgian- South African author Dierdre Rudman.

With her husband Chris Vervliet, she co-authored the third edition of the successful tourism book “Het Echte Zuid-Afrika” to which she contributed a chapter on South African recipees.

In 2001, her artistic creation “Universal woman”, was a prize-winner of the Belgian KAV She-Shirt designer’s competition. In 2004, a design of hers was elected by the South African embassy to Belgium as part of the commemoration of 10 years of freedom in South Africa.

Born in South Africa, she has been living in Belgium for over 20 years. Dierdre is currently living in the village of Boutersem with her husband and three children.
