Jim E Riviere, DVM, PhD is Distinguished Professor Emeritus from both North Carolina and Kansas State Universities and is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine. He has authored /edited 22 technical books, published over 600 scholarly manuscripts, and was Editor of the Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics for over two decades. His honors include the American Pharmaceutical Association's Ebert Prize, FDA's Harvey Wiley Medal, the University of North Carolina System's O Max Gardner award as well as life time research achievement awards from the American Veterinary Medical Association as well as his professional associations in pharmacology and toxicology. He has served on numerous national and international committees related to toxicology and food safety. He co-founded the USDA supported Food Animal Residue Avoidance and Depletion (FARAD) program in 1981. He served as founding director of NCSU's Center for Chemical Toxicology research and Pharmacokinetics and KSUs Institute of Comparative Computational Medicine as well as head of NCSU's Biomathematics graduate program. He earned his BS and MS from Boston College and DVM, PhD and DSc(hon) from Purdue University.
