born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to a beautiful

mother endowed with a priceless sense of

humor. Her father and inspiration, was a

genuine, honest, humanitarian and served as

a medic in the Air force. She has often sensed

their presence and believes her beloved

parents are watching her with amusement

and pride.

Willie Price presently resides in New Mexico with her husband.

She is an aspiring actress and has performed in a number of stage

productions.

She considers writing a fascinating form of expression, in which

Willie fully intends to passionately pursue."

The Humbling Side of Cancer

My story began with the Doctor Oz show. He encouraged anyone on an aspirin regiment to double the 81mg dosage. After watching the show, my husband and I adhered to his advice and doubled our aspirin. As a direct consequence, I discovered blood in my stool a week later…. My journey into vulnerability and humility began.

As a former actress, athlete, professional run way and spokes model, I have always balanced exercise and diet. Vanity aside, I had been considered a very healthy woman the past sixty-plus years of my life. Having always felt attractive and being a healthy person, I faced my life with some arrogance (I feel as good as I look, Yuk, Yuk) and independence (I can take care of myself!)

After the removal of a five millimeter tumor and a third of my colon, I gained serious perspective on the meaning of “humble.” As a writer, naturally I knew the definition of the word, humble. However, like most of us the word is often expressed but rarely experienced in our daily lives.

My journey into cancer, chemo, anxiety, anger, fear, physical pain, and constant fatigue, has taught this emotionally independent lady, to be “Ever-So-Humble!” I am grateful to have survived the entire ordeal by the absolute care, dedication, generosity and love of my spouse, children, family and friends …,”many of whom I did not know were friends”.

With great humility, today I am an active member of the Legion Riders Chapter One – Relay for Life Rio Rancho team. Our team is fundraising for support services offered by the American Cancer Society in Sandoval County. We will walk the track all night at Cleveland High School, July 13 7pm to July 14 7am, because cancer never sleeps.

We are planning the same event next year!
