Brian D. Behnken

Brian Behnken is a United States historian who specializes in the fields of African American and Mexican American history. His scholarship has explored relations between Latino/a/x people and African Americans during the civil rights period, police violence, and ethno-racial forms of nationalism, among other subjects. He also edits the book series Racism in American Institutions, which is published by Praeger. He holds the rank of Professor in the Department of History at Iowa State University. He also has affiliate faculty positions in the U.S. Latino/a Studies Program and the African and African American Studies Program at Iowa State.
