Tarry Ionta

Tarry Ionta

My name is Tarcisio Salvatore Ionta, but ever since I can remember I’ve been called Tarry. Now, I wonder why? I was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1933, of Italian parentage. So I’m really a Scot, with strong Italian ties.

I am married. My wife’s name is Margie, and we have two sons and a daughter. Also, three delightful grandchildren; Cara who is ten years old; Benjamin, seven; and Nicholas who is five,

My early schooling was unremarkable, though at times traumatic, being the child of Italian parents during the war years, and living in the UK.

I later served in the Royal Air Force for two years, then worked at various occupations before entering Glasgow University at thirty, to study Math, Physics, and Astronomy. I completed a year before dropping out, mostly due to ill health, and took a job as a telegraphist.

I moved on to a position with British Telecommunications Finance Department, and completed 27 years before retiring early, once again due to a health issue.

My interests and hobbies during my adult years have been mainly, reading science fiction, of which I’m somewhat of an addict. I’ve also had a keen, practicing interest in computing and martial arts (Judo and Shotokan Karate) and music (Saxophone, Clarinet, and Piano – with twelve years playing alto saxophone with the City of Glasgow Military Band). I’m no longer active in these fields; not really surprising considering my age. So I now concentrate on writing.

I’ve been writing since 1988, and have produced some fifty or more, varied short stories, a few articles, some novellas, and a number of novels, Also, a couple of children's books. Most of my short stories are included in anthologies. A few have also been short-listed in the WRITER'S NEWS monthly competitions.

I’m still writing, and will probably continue until my fingers can no long find the keys of my faithful computer.
