2022 Pushcart Prize nominee Robert Peate is the author of the Havian Quartet, his anti-theocracy dystopian series set in an alternate future. Other works include *Sisyphus Shrugged*, set after the events of Ayn Rand's *Atlas Shrugged*, when taxes, regulations, and social programs have been abolished. Two thirds of American workers decide to strike, asking the question, "Who is truly indispensable here?" *The Recovery* is Peate's depiction of Jesus as a mortal Jew surviving crucifixion, horrified to see his survival misrepresented by those creating a new religion for their own power. Peate has written six novels, fifteen collections of short fiction and poetry, plays, and essays. He calls his mind a word fountain. Though independent, his work has garnered the attention of some of the World's most interesting readers.
Regarding his work addressing social issues, Peate says, "Controversial topics are only controversial because they are important, so we must address them, in some form or another. I do so with my writing, but of course there are many ways to be an engaged citizen of the World. If we don't address what matters in some way, we skirt our duty as artists and human beings. I just happen to do it with these words that come out of my mind. What do you do it with?"
