Jorge Pullin

Jorge Pullin was born near Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he attended school and studied two years of Electrical Engineering at the University of Buenos Aires. He then left for the town of Bariloche, in the Andes mountains in Patagonia, to study physics at the Balseiro Institute. He got his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the Institute, although he did his thesis work in the University of Cordoba, where he was briefly Assistant Professor. From there came postdoctoral positions in Syracuse University and the University of Utah. During the 1990's he was on the faculty at PennState and in 2001 joined the faculty of the Louisiana State University as the Horace Hearne Chair in Theoretical Physics. With Jonathan Dowling he founded the Hearne Institute for Theoretical Physics. He has received Alfred P. Sloan, John S. Guggenheim and Fulbright fellowships, the Edward Bouchet Award of the American Physical Society and the Jack Keuffel award from the University of Utah. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences of Argentina and Mexico and of the Latin American Academy of Sciences. He has served on the advisory boards of the Kavli Institute in Santa Barbara, the Perimeter Institute in Canada and the Center for Gravitational Wave Astronomy at the University of Texas at Brownsville. He has served on the editorial boards of New Journal of Physics, Classical and Quantum Gravity and serves on the board of Living Reviews, Papers in Physics and is the managing editor of International Journal of Modern Physics D. He is the founding editor of Physical Review X. He was chair of the Topical Group in Gravitation of the American Physical Society and served on the Society's Council and its executive board.

He has collaborated (and continues to do so) with Rodolfo Gambini since 1991. Together they have developed recently "The Montevideo Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics" and coauthored together over 110 scientific papers.

When not engrossed in physics he enjoys tinkering with and blogging about Royal Enfield motorcycles, running marathons (finished one in every US state) playing the great highland bagpipes, brewing beer, making bread and tending the garden.
