James Laidler is an emerging writer, novelist and spoken word performer from country Victoria. James' work has been featured throughout Australia on Writer's Radio, ABC Radio National and Melbourne's RRR. Selections of his writings have also been published in the literary journals: Going Down Swinging, Cordite, Poetica Christi, Poetry Matters and Peril.

James' first novel, 'The taste of apple', won the IP Picks Award for Best First Book 2010 and was published to glowing reviews in November of that same year.

James' short one man play, 'Before the Fall', won the The Australian Poetry Centre's Monologue Competition Callout. As a result, James' monologue was funded for production and performed on stage at the 2010 Melbourne Writer's Festival. 'Before the fall' was directed by Petra Kalive and acted by Aljin Abella.

In 2009, James made the Victorian State finals of the Australian Poetry Slam Competition.

In terms of other literary succesess, James has won the TNT Mail Scholarships Award in both 2001 & 2002, placed second in the 2009 FAW Shoalhaven Literary Awards, was been highly commended in the 2009 CJ Dennis Literary and Poetica Christi Awards, and was shortlisted in both 2009 & 2010 for the Olvar Woods Fellowship Award.

James lives in Warrnambool, Victoria, where he divides his time between writing, teaching and being a loving father to his two beautiful boys.
