Bernard Le Bargy

Bernard Le Bargy lives in Norfolk. A career in Personnel Management culminated in his final role: Personnel Director of a large engineering company.

Sharing a passion for travel with his wife Rosemary they have spent their retirement roaming the World, in the past 15 years visiting well over 100 countries.

‘Jubilado’ is Bernard’s second book. Jubilado (‘retired’ in Spanish) relates tales of their travels in Latin America.

Having visited every country in Central and South America Bernard decides it is time to write his final chapter of stories from those extensive travels.

In ‘Jubilado’ Bernard recalls an eclectic mix of experiences, from visits made to the tourist hotspots like Machu Picchu and the Iguassu Falls and to the great cities of Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires and Havana but also to more obscure parts of the Continent:

Whale watching at very close quarters in the depths of Patagonia

A climb to the top of Cape Horn.

A visit to war torn El Salvador dubbed ‘murder capital of the world’

Meeting a musical legend in Guyana.

Finding themselves trapped on the Bolivian salt flats.

Along the way they also enjoy a variety of cultural encounters: learning about ancient civilisations, the Incas, Mayans and Aztecs and meeting an indigenous tribe still living in the remote Darien jungle a drug running route on the border between Panama and Colombia.

An interest in the arts leads to a personal journey of discovery involving contemporary icons in popular culture Frida Kahlo, Fernando Botero and Jorge Amado.

Bernard's first book ‘Back to the Bush’ published in 2008 tells of a visit to Botswana during which he recalls his time as a volunteer worker in that country in the 1960’s meeting people and visiting places he knew all those years ago..
