Lance P. Young

Lance Young is a retired Ventura County Sheriff’s Captain. As such, he has worked most assignments in the law enforcement career field such as Custody (Jail System), Patrol, Administration, Homicide, and spent twelve years as a SWAT Supervisor. He was also one of the leading firearms staff and taught many varied subjects at the Ventura County Criminal Justice Academy for 21 years. He was an assistant professor and instructor in the Ventura College Administration of Justice Program for 23 years. He joined the United States Air Force in 1964 and was stationed in Korea, the Netherlands and Germany. He met and married Bonnie, his wife of forty-three years, who worked as a civilian contractor for the Office of Special Investigations. Their son, Matthew, is a Detective with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and a member of the SWAT Unit. Their daughter, Kristen, is an elementary school teacher in the city of Santa Paula.

Lance has been collecting militaria since his father’s friends gave him souvenirs that they had brought back from World War II. His love for the Air Force and Law Enforcement has manifested itself in his position as an instructor at Gunsite Training Academy, helping prepare law enforcement, military, and civilians prepare to defend themselves and their families with a wide variety of weapons. Unfortunately, he was forced to retire due to back issues, but maintains his contacts and interests in the community. He resides with his wife in Ventura County, California.
