Charles Souby

Charles Souby was born and raised on the Chicago North Shore.

In the fall of 1975 he moved to San Francisco, where he graduated with a BA in English Literature from San Francisco State University. The ensuing fifteen years found him struggling in Alaska and California, living close to the curb. He spent the late 80’s and early 90’s as a San Francisco cab driver and street musician.

In 1999, relieved of his demons he moved to Marin County, California where he studied with poet and fiction author James Tipton. A graduate of the Upright Citizen's Brigade in Los Angeles and BATS Improv in San Francisco, Charles presently lives in the Hawaiian Islands.

He has published two novels His novels, especially the second, “A Shot of Malaria” have received positive critical response. He recently published an anthology of short stories, "A View from the Borderline," available on Ingram Sparks. He also has had short stories and poems published in the Saturday Evening Post Online, Storyteller Magazine, The Opening Line, 5 Poetry, and the California Quarterly Review.
