I blame a school chum for introducing me to motorcycling!Quite why I was so taken with Velocette I am not so sure. It was the early sixties and design was moving towards smooth,elegant shapes with the introduction of unit construction and Velocette looked the complete opposite, " nuts and bolts", old fashioned and with a link between form and function.And, boy did the sporty versions look good.

I had to pass through many stages of education before I could afford one; it seemed to sit well with my vocation as a Science teacher. It was pragmattic too for I once used a few Bunsen burners to heat an engine casting to enable the removal of a main bearing.

Although I now have several makes of old bike, remarkably none of them are " mainstream", an NSU Max for example and a Panther twin are present .

A friend said once, "you like odd things"; I said , dont let my wife hear you say that !
