Paul Hoffmann

Paul Jacob Hoffmann was born in Rockhampton, Australia, in 1970. His father was a professional woodchopper and his mother was a nurse. Growing up in the humid conditions of Central Queensland, Paul was a keen sportsman who enjoyed cricket, rugby league and boxing.

At school, his favourite subjects were English and Physical Education. After completing a journalism degree at Central Queensland University, Paul spent much of the next 20 years playing cricket semi-professionally, in Australia and Scotland, as well as working as a sports freelance writer.

In 2007, Paul played for Scotland in the 2007 Cricket World Cup and was inducted into the Cricket Scotland Hall of Fame in 2017 after a long and distinguished career.

In 2014, while in Rockhampton, he made the decision to go back to University and study teaching. This light bulb moment was due to his wife telling him that he should have been an English teacher, as he often helped others with their writing.

Since 2015, Paul has taught in Australia and Scotland. He currently teaches English in the county of South Lanarkshire, on the outskirts of Glasgow.
