Pavel A. Pevzner

Pavel Pevzner is a Distinguished Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at University of California San Diego (UCSD), where he holds the Ronald R. Taylor Chair. In 2006, he was named a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Professor. He authored and co-authored Computational Molecular Biology (The MIT Press, 2000), An Introduction to Bioinformatics Algorithms (The MIT Press, 2004), Bioinformatics Algorithms: An Active learning Approach (Active Learning Publishers, 2014), Learning Algorithms by Programming and Puzzle Solving (Active Learning Technologies), 2019), and co-edited Bioinformatics for Biologists (Cambridge University Press, 2011). He has been named a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB), and American Association for Advancement of Science (AAAS). He was awarded the ISCB Senior Scientist Award (2016) and the ACM Kanellakis Theory and Practice Award (2019). He co-developed the online specializations Bioinformatics (https://www.coursera.org/specializations/bioinformatics) and Algorithms (https://www.coursera.org/specializations/data-structures-algorithms) on Coursera.
