David Talon

I grew up in and around the Chicago area, going to live with my grandparents when I was five, after my mother took her own life (I've never learned the 'how', although after reading her letters, I do understand the 'why'). My grandmother Ruby was a warm, wonderful person, who owned a bookstore during the Great Depression, and taught me how to write.

I grew up on the stories of Robert E. Howard and other adventure/fantasy writers, crafting my own stories during most of high school ('twas a lot more interesting than algebra). I joined the Marine Corps (Uncle Sam's Misguided Children) as an infantryman at 17, later the Navy (Never Again Volunteer Yourself), writing short stories of which I sold a few, then gave it up when I (finally) entered college under the Vietnam era GI bill and joined the mundane world of work.

But now I'm free, living in Asheville, NC, and writing full-time
