John Warham was born in Leeds, UK, in 1952. He attended Leeds Grammar School and graduated from The College of Air Training, Hamble in 1975. He began working in the same year as a commercial pilot for Casair Aviation Services in Teesside. He flew for British Air Ferries (Southend), Air Transcontinental (Windsor) and Monarch Airlines (Luton) before realising his boyhood dream, becoming a Boeing 747 captain with Cathay Pacific Airways, based in Hong Kong. As president of the Hong Kong Airline Pilots' Association, he worked with the International Federation of Airline Pilots' Associations on Flight Time Limitations and industrial issues in the 1990s, was awarded an IFALPA Presidential Citation in 2003 and is an honorary member of the Royal Air Force Association. He currently lives in Koh Samui but still keeps a close connection with Hong Kong. The 49ers II is the long awaited follow up to The 49ers.
