Oguz Baskurt

Oguz Baskurt graduated from Hacettepe Medical Faculty at Ankara, Turkey in 1982 and completed his PhD in Physiology in the same institution in 1988. He joined to the Akdeniz University at Antalya in 1990 as an associate professor of physiology and promoted to full professorship in 1997. Dr. Baskurt concentrated his work in the field of hemorheology and hemodynamics starting with his PhD studies. Dr. Baskurt’s research was focused on the hemorheological alterations in various pathophysiological models and in vivo effects of these alterations, especially the alterations in red blood cell aggregation. He also conducted several studies related to the basic mechanisms of red blood cell aggregation. Dr. Baskurt is the editorial board member of the international journals entitled Clinical Hemorheology and Microcirculation and in addition to several national journals. He served as the president of The International Society of Clinical Hemorheology for two terms between 1999-2005. Dr. Baskurt published more than 150 papers in international journals, a number of book chapters and edited the Handbook of Hemorheology and Hemodynamics published in 2007.

Dr. Baskurt served as the vice-rector of Akdeniz University between 2000-2004, being mainly responsible for research, education and student affairs and as the chief-adviser to the Rector in 2004, and conducted the strategic planning studies of the University. He is currently working as Professor of Physiology at Koc University, Istanbul, Turkey.
