Lucio Picci

Lucio Picci is Professor of Economics at the University of Bologna. His latest book, Rethinking Corruption: Reasons Behind the Failure of Anti-Corruption Efforts (Cambridge University Press, 2024), has been praised as “an important book” offering “a subtle and wide-ranging critique of a half-century of social science research on corruption” (Susan Rose-Ackerman, Yale University).

In addition to his academic research, Picci has worked with international organizations such as the European Commission, the World Bank, and the United Nations, as well as with several branches of the Italian government, including the Prime Minister’s Office and the Italian Anti-Corruption Authority.

He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, San Diego, where he studied under Nobel Laureate Robert Engle.
