Sabbithry Persad

Sabbithry Persad is an author of several award-winning titles, including the Earth Day Garbology KidsŪ series and the nonfiction children’s book "What Is Coronavirus? How It Infects, How It Spreads, and How to Stay Safe." For her latest book, "The Journey Seed," Persad draws from her family heritage, which reflects the often-overlooked history of Indian indentured migration to Trinidad. She created "The Journey Seed" to honor resilience, cultural continuity, and the enduring search for belonging across generations.

Persad's book "What Is Coronavirus? How It Infects, How It Spreads, and How to Stay Safe" (ages 12 and up) tackles questions and concerns about the coronavirus and offers public health support by explaining SARS-CoV-2, the diseases it causes, and the steps to keep people safe and curb the spread. Readers also learn about past pandemics and how they ended, offering an optimistic outlook for the future. Persad acted—personally—as the project manager for the development of "What Is Coronavirus? with passion and unique energy, a tour-de-force of leadership.

Persad's award-winning Earth Day creations in the Garbology KidsŪ waste management series, offers a fun and interesting way for children ages 5 - 8 to learn about issues in waste generation and waste management, for the benefit of the Earth and future generations. "Where Do Recyclable Materials Go?" teaches children about how to collect and sort recyclable materials and what happens to those recyclable materials when they are put out at the curb. "Operation: Reuse It!" teaches children about the value of reusing items by showing how they can be put to the same use, a different function or a creative project. "We Can Reduce: Precycle It!" teaches children how to reduce waste in their homes and communities.

Persad holds a degree in Sociology from New York University, along with an MBA and a Postgraduate Diploma in Publishing. She is the founder of Firewater Media Group and Green Solutions Magazine (2007–2012), an online publication focused on environmental solutions and sustainability. A veteran, Persad now lives in Orlando.
